“New York–based American artist Ron English (b. 1966, Dallas, TX) has been described as a “pop pervert and prankster.” Infamous for his subversive use of pirated billboards, this seminal figure in street art and the “culture-jamming” movement exploits familiar brand imagery and advertising in photorealist paintings and art actions that critique contemporary consumer culture. Past works include unauthorized murals at the Berlin Wall’s Checkpoint Charlie in 1989 and on the Palestinian separation wall in the West Bank in 2007, and the Abraham Obama project in 2008. This evening includes Pedro Carvajal’s 2005 documentary feature Propaganda: The Art and Crimes of Ron English, and a sampling of English’s recent moving image works, including the “Detroit project” from his ongoing video-posting series. After the screening, English will engage in a discussion with Papermagazine editor Carlo McCormick.“

We were in L.A. recently for the opening of Ron English’s new show Seasons in Supurbia at the Corey Helford Gallery. It was an amazing show featuring some of Ron’s new works. One of the great aspects of Baby Tattooville is the annual collabo know as the Art Jam painting. All of the artists involved in the event get together and paint a huge group piece. This year was just as insane as the past years. Check out some photos of the process below.

While we were in LA we checked out the Baby Tattooville opening. So many amazing artists under one roof. Almost too many to mention, but a few of the gang that were there included Buff Monster, Tara McPherson, James Jean, Jeff Soto, Anthony Ausgang, Ron English, Beau Stanton, Frank Kozik, Yoskay Yamamoto and many many others. We had a blast hanging out with old friends and making new ones. Look for the Art Jam 2011 painting photos coming soon. As always Mr. Sean Desmond comes through with the ill photo set.

We rolled down to LA this past weekend to help Ron English set up a few murals coinciding with his new show at Post No Bills. All of the crew agreed that this was one of the biggest wheat pasting projects we’ve been a part of. The entire thing was over 60 feet wide by 30 feet high! Installed on a wall in a great location, the mural showcases some of Ron’s new poster art in a major way. Photo set from the opening and general hijinks coming up next! The TOTT crew was out filming on location in Detroit this past week with Ron English and familiy for the upcoming The Emperors New Art. The first webisode will be debuting on Ebaum’s World Oct 31.
